Stag and hen parties in Malta: planning the weekend properly

Malta has become one of Europe's busiest stag and hen destinations for three simple reasons: everything is walkable, flights are short and frequent, and a full night out costs a third of Ibiza. Here is what to know before you book anything.

What makes Malta work for groups

Paceville fits into three or four streets. Every big club on the island is there, minutes from each other, and if the group stays in the middle nobody is hunting a taxi at four in the morning. That is the difference-maker: with twelve people, end-of-night logistics is what breaks a weekend, and Malta removes it. Add a season running May to September and direct flights from most large European cities.

What to book first

In this order: accommodation, then the boat party, then everything else. Accommodation for eight or more thins out fast in July and August, and it determines everything downstream. The boat party comes next because it has fixed capacity and sells out days ahead in high season. Club entry can be left to the last minute without risk: Paceville clubs almost never fill to the point of turning people away.

The real budget per person

Excluding flights and accommodation, allow thirty to fifty euros per person per night, all in. The detail: club entry fifteen to twenty-five euros, beer three to five, cocktails five to twelve. An open-bar boat party sits around seventy euros but replaces a whole night. Across three nights, a hundred and fifty to two hundred euros a head covers the partying without meals.

The running order that works

The pattern groups follow when they come back: arrive late afternoon on day one, dinner and bars in Paceville with no club, to settle everyone. Day two, beach or Comino in the morning, a sunset pool party, then a club. Day three, boat party in the late afternoon, which becomes the weekend's centrepiece. The last evening stays light, because there is a flight. Three nights is the right length: at four, the group falls apart.

The mistakes that cost money

Booking twelve boat party spots the day before in August, and finding six left. Staying in Valletta because it is beautiful, then paying twenty-five euros of taxi every night times three nights times three cars. Renting a car nobody will be able to drive home. And the most common one: not agreeing a meeting point before going into a club, when signal saturates inside and you lose two people every single time.

What needs booking and what does not

Book ahead: the boat party, VIP tables if the group wants one, and Comino trips in July and August. Do not bother booking: ordinary club entry, bars, restaurants outside Saturday night. A VIP area is negotiated directly with the club and is often paid as a minimum spend rather than an entry price, which changes the maths for a large group.
